Detroit Pistons: 2025 Offseason Priorities and Salary Cap Dynamics

I weight if the Pistons should use cap space or stay over the cap to re-sign their free agents. I also look at what Jaden Ivey and Jalen Duren could be looking at in extension negotiations.

The Detroit Pistons are finally here after being lost in the wilderness for over a decade. This team won’t be a one-off playoff appearance with no shot at advancing to the second round. They have an identity and several young players who’ll grow together.

The Pistons are entering the offseason in a critical position. Many teams here would view themselves as close enough to contention to make aggressive moves. But they may need another season to see whether their performance last year holds up. That’s a reasonable proposition considering how weak next year’s Eastern Conference is shaping up.

Bryce Simon joined the podcast last month to discuss the Pistons and their upcoming offseason. We discussed their direction and the type of star we envision pairing Cade Cunningham with, once it’s time to make that move. It’s a good companion piece for this preview, which focuses on their salary cap dynamics, whether to use cap space, and extension negotiations for key players.
