Miami Heat: Offseason Opportunities and Salary Cap Dynamics
I take a deeper look at the Heat's trade possibilities for an All-Star and some contract decisions for key players.
The Miami Heat have been the NBA’s most consistent middle-builders. They’ve been able to put together title-contending rosters without having a high lottery selection. If they can find Bam Adebayo, Tyler Herro, and Kel’el Ware in the middle of the first round, imagine who they could get with a top selection. But we’ll likely never know since bottoming out is not the Heat way.
Is Jimmy Butler’s tumultuous exit an indicator of their mantra not resonating as strongly as its reputation suggests? Probably not. If anything, they are better positioned to take this roster to the next level by no longer having Butler’s maximum salary on their books. They don’t have the most appealing trade package for a potential All-Star, but they’ve managed to get who they need time after time.
Ethan Skolnick joined the podcast last month to discuss the Heat and their upcoming offseason. We mainly discussed what type of star they could potentially pursue and Davion Mitchell’s restricted free agency. It’s a good companion piece for this preview, which will touch on some of that stuff as well as their salary cap dynamics to fulfill their goals, and a potential extension for Tyler Herro.
