The New York Knicks completed one of the most successful middle-builds in NBA history. They put together a championship contender almost entirely through trade and free agency. They’ll look to build off their trip to the Conference Finals by advancing to the Finals in a wide-open East next year.

Last year, they focused on overhauling their core with major trades. Now that it’s set, they will focus this offseason on fortifying their bench and depth. They won’t have significant draft assets or cap flexibility to make a major trade, but they have one of the most attractive situations for veterans looking to win a championship.

Ian Begley joined the podcast earlier this week to discuss the Knicks and their upcoming offseason. The coaching search and the main core’s viability as a championship contender. It’s a good companion piece for this preview, which will focus on salary cap dynamics. In particular, how they could improve their bench under the first apron restrictions and the extension eligibility of Mikal Bridges.
