Orlando Magic: 2025 Offseason Priorities and Salary Cap Dynamics
I take a look at closer look at Paolo Banchero's upcoming extension-eligibility, project Orlando's future tax situation, and explain why they may look to trim their payroll in the near future.
The Orlando Magic finished the season with six fewer wins than in the previous one. Most of that can be chalked up to injuries, so their outlook remains largely unchanged. The main core featuring Paolo Banchero, Franz Wagner, and Jalen Suggs only played in six games together all season.
Despite that, it’s clear that this roster could use significant improvements. They’ve correctly navigated their rebuild with patience, allowing them to identify their core players and develop them. But these next 3 to 12 months will be the time for them to upgrade the roster, particularly on the offensive end. And they’ll have the means to accomplish that.
Jason Beede joined the podcast last week to discuss the Magic and their upcoming offseason. We discussed where they could improve the roster and speculated on potential good fits that fit their payroll structure. It’s a good companion piece for this preview, which will focus on salary cap dynamics. In particular, Paolo Banchero’s inevitable maximum extension and Orlando’s upcoming luxury tax crunch.
