Philadelphia 76ers: Why Pivoting for the Draft Lottery Isn't So Simple
The Sixers find themselves in an increasingly precarious position as their season continues to spiral. I weigh the risk-reward of potentially bottoming out, trading veterans, and ducking the tax.
The Philadelphia 76ers are staring down the barrell of a lost season. After overhauling their roster and core in free agency, they've been unable to break above the top 10 in the reverse standings. Joel Embiid has mostly been unavailable for the season and his absence has been felt throughout the roster. Things probably won't get any better in the near term as he continues to miss time and their schedule gets tougher.
We're at the point where teams in this position need to seriously think about pivoting for better draft positioning, restocking draft picks by trading veterans, and saving money. However, these decisions aren’t as clear-cut for the Sixers and they carry a good amount of risk that won't guarantee them a better outcome down the line.
