Portland Trail Blazers: 2025 Offseason Priorities and Salary Cap Dynamics
I analyze extension possibilities for Shaedon Sharpe and Toumani Camara and how their long-term cap situation puts them in an advantageous position to be aggressive in the trade market.
The Portland Trail Blazers are about to complete their fourth season out of the playoffs with mixed results in their rebuild. They got burned by adding multiple veterans on big contracts that did not age well. They could’ve had more draft picks during that span if they prioritized their flexibility on taking bad contracts with picks attached.
Their drafting seemed shaky at best, considering the highest selection they had is still a work in progress. But through the process, they’ve managed to put together a promising young core. They just lack a number one option. If they can’t get that from within, they have the means to get one through trade.
Sean Highkin joined the podcast last week to discuss the Blazers and their upcoming offseason. We discussed our feelings about their rebuild and where they could look to improve on the roster. It’s a good companion piece for this preview, which will focus on salary cap dynamics. In particular, what Shaedon Sharpe’s rookie extension could look like, Toumani Camara’s extension options, and how their long-term cap situation puts them in an advantageous position to be aggressive in the trade market.
